WorldWIT expands global community with new
chapter in Paris
PARIS, July 11, 2003 - OuiWIT, the local
chapter of WorldWIT™, a free online community
for professional women in business and technology,
has expanded its global outreach with an official
launch in Paris, France, under the guidance of
new executive director, Carolyn Moncel.
Moncel also is president of MotionTemps, LLC,
a virtual management firm that provides English
Mother Tongue administrative and marketing communications
support to small-business owners. When her husband
transferred to Paris in October 2002, Moncel moved
her business to Paris as well. A former member
of ChicWIT, the Chicago chapter of WorldWIT, Moncel
made the natural decision of opening a WorldWIT
chapter in her new home after realizing how much
she missed being able to share resources with
other women via the ChicWIT e-mail discussion
list. "I loved the 'give and take' aspects of
ChicWIT and I look forward to creating a free
and friendly resource that allows both French
and English-speaking women to unite, share advice,
converse and network."
Establishing OuiWIT brings together an extremely
diverse group of professional women in Paris,
representing countries from all over the world,
to share resources on both a personal and a professional
level. "Paris is filled with dynamic and interesting
women living and working in one of the world's
most beautiful cities. Many of these women are
involved in technology- either in a corporate
setting or as small-business owners and they need
additional, free options for connecting with one
another," commented Moncel.
Since its launch in April, OuiWIT, the only free,
English-speaking online community for professional
French and expatriate women, has grown to include
45 members. Currently Moncel is planning informational
meet and greet sessions for existing and prospective
members around the city to further introduce the
organization to professional women. Further details
on the meet and greet sessions, along with additional
co-sponsored events, will be announced this fall
after the summer vacation ends and professionals
return to work.
WorldWIT CEO and Founder, Liz Ryan, states, "OuiWIT's
launch brings WorldWIT one step closer to becoming
a truly global community for women in business
and technology. It's a shining example of how
women overcome language, culture and distance
in order to unite and empower themselves in business."
In addition, the launching of OuiWIT is particularly
interesting given the current political disagreement
between France and The United States. "Despite
the fact that our country's leaders may not be
able to come to an agreement on certain issues,
these professionals support each other, permeate
cultural and language barriers and come together
in the spirit of unity and fraternity," Moncel
says. OuiWIT will not only allow members to build
friendships and business contacts in France, but
potentially all around the world. Members primarily
reside in France, but some live in the U.S. and
other countries, providing insight and advice
about business in their areas of the world.
Women interested in joining OuiWIT can visit
the WorldWIT Web
site or send
e-mail.
